Included in this count is, of course, <strong>Facebook<\/strong>, the unbeatable global leader in terms of monthly active users, along with steadily rising social networks like <strong>Instagram<\/strong> (which recently surpassed <strong>Snapchat<\/strong> in terms of average user connection time), less crowded platforms like <strong>Twitter<\/strong> and <strong>Pinterest<\/strong>, and high-traffic &#8216;localized&#8217; alternatives (such as <strong>Vkontakte<\/strong> in Russia or <strong>Qzone<\/strong> in China).<\/p>\n<p>Together, these platforms reach about <strong>40%<\/strong> of the <strong>global population<\/strong>\u2014an <strong>absolutely impressive figure<\/strong>, considering the relative novelty of the subject: Facebook\u2019s launch dates back to 2004, and even then, access was limited.<br \/>\nTo understand the magnitude of this figure, consider that the entire <em>World Wide Web<\/em>, according to the same data, has a penetration rate of 51%\u2014and it has had significantly more time to establish itself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And what now?<\/strong> The growth shows no signs of slowing down: with new platforms continuously emerging, established platforms reinventing themselves, and social networks in decline, the total number of users across these networks has increased by about <strong>120 million<\/strong> compared to the previous survey.
