The most popular iOS app—second only to Facebook—is Messenger.
Every month, Messenger reaches 800 million active users, and its services keep expanding.
Some of the features that have significantly improved the app include:
- Introduction of video calls
- Ability to customize conversations
- Integration of games
- Message requests, allowing chats with non-friends
- Photo Magic, for automatic photo sharing
- Business On Messenger, designed for customer support services
- Ability to send and receive money within conversations between friends
- Option to book Uber rides
Messenger’s goals for 2016 include retiring outdated communication methods, simplifying people’s lives, and, above all, continuously connecting more users—not just through chat.
The numbers are promising. In March 2015, Messenger had around 500 million users; by June, that number had already grown to 700 million. Now, as mentioned earlier, it has surpassed 800 million. Despite this growth, however, Messenger is still underutilized—likely due to its continued association with Facebook. For instance, many young people still prefer using SMS to communicate with each other.
